We had an amazing experience with the Maka Indian tribe in Paraguay. The mission president took us with he and his wife and elders to meet with them for a lesson. They are pure descendents of the Nephites and Lamanites. They sang a song to us with their melodic chanting in their native dialect. The word I recognized twice was Cristo. and then we sang I am a child of God to them. They tell the story of the great white God that visited their people, that has been passed down the generations. We told them the story of the Book of Mormon and showed them the picture of Christ visiting the Nephites. Their faces just lite up,as we bore testimony of the Book about their people. They were weaving bracelets and purses that they sell at the airport. The children were so intriged with all of us. They went back wednesday for the Chiefs wifes birthday, and brought a giant sheet of frosted brownies that I made for the Presidents wife as she was busy the whole day helping all the sister missionarys get measured for long pants during the hot mosquito season so they dont get bit and contract yellow fever or Dungee or other viruses past by mosquitos. All the sisters in all 28 missions have to be protected from these diseases. One of these indigenios tribes all joined the church at once a few years back, more than 400 baptized the same day. Heavenly Father has given amazing promises in the Book of Mormon concerning the posterity. Our children and families have been so blessed and protected by the great teachings in this Book written and preserved by their people. We felt such a connection to them. It was a very spiritual experience, and we were so grateful to be a part of it. We had to get up at 3 am and sneak out for a taxi to get to the airport for a 5am flight, went straight to the office in Buenos Aires and got caught up all day. I think we are going to bed. These days are full for a couple of older birds.
