HI friends and family,
We are helping the missionaries do an open chapel every weekend this month. We go three weeks ahead and do a 40 minute training in the ward or branch during Sunday school time or Relief society/priesthood. We share a very spiritual power point about how the members work with the Missionarys to find the less actives and part member or non members in their area and invite them to the open chapel to see what the Mormons do. Some of the auxiliary leaders set up a little display in classrooms about their YM or primary or relief society or elders quorum. The sister Missionarys are in the chapel with our big Christus laminante and they play the words of Christ recording and then share testimony. Then they take the group into the cultural hall where we have 8 beautiful freestanding laminated posters of different gospel topics and the sisters share about two minutes about each then go to the baptism font where two elders dressed in white share about baptism. They finish the 20 minute tour at a reference table with a treat table and fill out referral cards that the missionaries help with. Each of our open house chapel events generate many referrals, bring all who attend closer to the Savior and help strengthen the members and reactivate the less active that have been invited. It's so awesome seeing the ward members working so closely with the Missionarys in visiting the homes and inviting. A great boost to each of our 28 missions. We are working hard to get each mission using this great missionary tool. Each of our mission home offices has their own kit with everything they need, but some lack the teaming to know how benificial they are. That's where we come in. And we go each 6 weeks to all the Buenos Aires Missions and spend A couple of hours with each group of Missionarys going home to help them prepare for the future. It is such a sweet experience. I just play like each one of them are my Lisel or Cayden and feel so much love for them. We also train the self reliance facilitators in the stakes here in the city. So we stay busy most nights. I'm cutting most all of the American wives hair because they don't speak Spanish and are afraid to trust the local hair dressers. I'm so glad the girls talked me into being my cutting tools. Last Sunday we went to do a training for an open house in a ward about an hour out of town. When we arrived a high counselor asked if we could go do a nearby ward the third hour and we said of course so he called the other bishop and we hurried over just in time to set up for another PowerPoint presentation for them. Don felt inspired to pass each adult and youth a piece of paper and pencil and during the last slide while listening to the beautiful words of Christ he ask them each to write down a name and address or phone of someone they wanted to share the gospel with. They generated 21 referrals that we collected for the Missionarys in that ward that Sunday . After we met with the bishop and everyone had left but the Missionarys they walked out to our car with us and mentioned that they were fasting that Sunday. One elder had been in that area for three transfers. He said the first transfer they had had 10 baptisms, the second five and this one none and they were fasting for special help from the Lord. And we weren't even supposed to be there. If the Lord isn't directing this work I sure don't know who is. He loves each of His children and directs His work. It's so fun to be a part of it. A day never goes by with sharing pass along cards pamphlets or Books of Mormon on the subway, streets or buses. Such wonderfully kind and helpful people here and always helping me with this language. A great family invited us to dinner on Pops birthday and their teenage daughter even made him a carrot cake. How did she know? We feel so loved here but missing all of you that we love.
